Appeal for Nepal Flood Victims by Journey of Hope Nepal
Journey of Hope Nepal stands in solidarity with all families and communities affected by the devastating flooding. We wish strength, courage and safe recovery to all affected individuals, families and communities. Our deepest condolences go to the families who have lost loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are injured, displaced, missing, or awaiting rescue.
Experts said the floods were likely triggered by the collapse of a massive glacier in the nearby mountains—an event so powerful that it registered on seismographs as the equivalent of a 5.2 magnitude earthquake. The subsequent avalanche sent a torrent of water and debris downstream on August 26, 2026. The massive flash flood crossed into Nepal causing widespread destruction across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha districts, and surrounding areas. Villages, bridges, roads, homes, schools, health posts and other critical infrastructure along more than 50 miles of the river valleys have either been damaged or swept away, which has affected thousands of people. The full scale of assessment is underway to determine the loss of lives and destruction of personal properties and public infrastructures. However, the damaged roads, bridges and communication infrastructures is making the assessment task difficult. As of Aug. 28, 2026, 900 deaths have been reported, and 2,500 people have been unaccounted. The country’s disaster relief agency says that 517 foreign nationals are among the missing persons. These figures are preliminary and are expected to increase by many folds.
Journey of Hope Nepal is fully operational in the country to coordinate the activities on the ground. Based on the filed reports, the most urgent lifesaving needs of survivors are:
Safe Drinking Water
Food
Shelter
Clothing, beddings and cooking items
Hygiene and sanitation supplies
Journey of Hope Nepal is coordinating a fundraising campaign and every dollar collected through this drive will directly assist the lifesaving humanitarian assistance, recovery, and rebuilding efforts. The extent of damages is so extensive that the affected communities will face an incredibly difficult road to recovery.
We humbly request you to open your hearts and contribute whatever you can. No donation is small. Your generosity can bring hope, comfort, and relief to flood affected families. Journey of Hope Nepal is a 503(c)1 non-profit organization and your donation is a tax deductible.
